We are David and Amy Baylis. We are Liquid Planet Divers, LLC in Denham Springs, LA.
We offer scuba instruction from beginner to instructor. Our full service dive shop includes all aspects of sales of Scuba equipment as well as repair and service. We also offer a full service travel business.
David was born in London, England and moved to Canada when he was 9 years old. When he was 17, he represented Canada in the international freediving spearfishing championship in Africa. He loved africa so much a 6 week trip turned into 2 years! He also learned to scuba dive while he was there. He worked as a commercial diver and had the great honor of working on the most famous research vessel, the Calipso, with the man who made scuba diving mainstream, Jacques Cousteau. By the time he was 18 years old, he logged his 1000th hour underwater. He returned to Canada and began an instructor apprentice program. He became a certified instructor at age 21.
He became a Toronto police officer in 1982, and advanced to become a training instructor for the Canadian Armed Forces in Ontario and held the position of training officer for the Ontario Provincial Police Search and Recovery Team until 1995. During this time, he relocated to Kingston, Ontario, Canada and opened his first full service dive shop, Dive Quest Canada. The dive shop ran 5 charter boats and filled an average of 300 scuba tanks per day serving the Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence river area. He was also a first responder for the Coast Guard.
He has had the good fortune to dive most of the world, was a professional photographer, and is a wonderful instructor.
He moved to Cozumel, Mexico to manage Caribbean Divers dive shop. Managed a staff of 65, and 4 boats that went out on a daily basis. He also instructed in Cozumel.
He met Amy while she was on a weekend trip in Cozumel in December 1996. She eventually moved to Cozumel with him for 1 ½ years. They were married in 1998.
Amy was born and raised in Baton Rouge, LA. She received an Associates Degree in Accounting in 1975 and worked in the accounting and management field for 20 years. She went back to school in the field of Massage Therapy, and became a licensed massage therapist in 1995. She is in private practice specializing in chronic pain relief.
She has been a certified diver since 1995, and has had the good fortune to do a lot of diving. She manages the retail in the shop. They have lived Baton Rouge since 1998, David has a swimming pool repair and remodeling company. He is also the training director for the Livingston Parish District 5 Fire Department Search and Recovery Unit. |
